In Texas there are three classes of misdemeanor offenses: Class A, B, and C.   The punishment ranges for these offense are listed below.  Keep in mind, these punishment ranges are for first offenses.  If you have a prior offense on your record and are charged with a new misdemeanor offense, it is possible that the punishment range will be enhanced by the State.  That means the fines can go up and more jail time could be possible.

Offense                                          Fine                                   Jail Time

Class C Misdemeanor                                  up to $500.00                                 none

Class B Misdemeanor                                   up to $2,000.00                             up to 180 days in County Jail

Class A Misdemeanor                                   up to $4,000.00                              up to 1 year in County Jail
